husband outta town
APRIL WROTE: So Dave is outta town, in Denver actually. He’s eating $50 dinners every night and winning free ipods and stuff. Yeah, it’s a “business” trip. Must be nice! Actually, it’s good that he gets a break from the monotony and drama of school.
So me and the boys? What have we been up to? Isaac had his flag football championship on Saturday and then we went to a police-fest. They had hound dogs, drug dogs, the swat team, the bomb squad, helicopters, fire trucks, police horses and motorcycles and even a sheriff’s car converted into a real race car. The boys loved it.

Also while dave is gone I haven’t been cooking that’s for sure. Top Ramen and Cici’s Pizza are good for you. And staying up until 2 am every night is good for you too. (I’ve been reading Confessions of an Ugly Step Sister- great book! I finished last night in the wee hours).
When dave gets back we are then heading down the coast for a 5 day road trip. We’ll hit up Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Miama, and all the keys. We’re all excited. Except for Isaac. He told me tonight he only wants to go to Orlando to stay in a hotel and swim and watch tv, Miami is boring and he doesn’t know how to speak Spanish. Interesting thoughts Isaac. Miami boring? I highly doubt that. And he can too speak Spanish, uno dos tres. I’ve taught him well. So I tried to talk him into seeing more than a hotel in Orlando but he wouldn’t budge. Now I guess we’ll just call every stop on our 8 hour drive “Orlando” and see if he falls for it.

Fantastic Post, Micasa! Isaac cracks me up. Little guys- we need to get ours together. It’s a dirty shame these boys aren’t kicking it old school together- they’re made for each other. But then, maybe that’s just me. Keep this stuff up- I love it!
My reply is in reply to Dan’s reply:)
Dan and MC and all your friends … maybe you could help Dave find a job as an orthodontist in Logan!! Then we (Rick & Claudia) would move to the area too. With the latter day troubles quickly approaching (believe me, you have no idea what’s coming down), we might take the advice of Howard Ruff and the like as they advise:
“A number of writers, from Kurt Saxon to Howard Ruff to Mel Tappan, have already suggested it but I think that it bears a retelling.
What they’ve said is this: get yourself situated in a small community that could get by without outside help if things came unglued nationally or internationally. Find a spot that allows you to live in the life-style you’ve grown accustomed to (and a community that allows you to carry on your livelihood) but which has the ability to grow its own food and protect its people. This spot has the ability to carry on trade within its borders and has a number of people who can supply specialized products or professional skills.
An area with two thousand to five thousand people in it along with a surrounding farm community would be ideal but sizes can vary a lot according to the climate and city. Ideally such a town would have its own power plant with a few small industries along with the usual smattering of doctors, dentists, and other professionals.
This type of community isn’t rare in the US. It’s quite common in almost every state. You could probably even take a little risk and commute into a city if you must keep your current job.
Western civilization stepped out of the dark ages when small communities started allowing people to specialize in various jobs. Rather than each many being his own artisan, farmer, doctor, carpenter, etc., men started learning to master one job they enjoyed doing. Each man become more efficient at doing a job and–through the magic of capitalism–western culture finally started upward again.
A small modern community like the one suggested above, when faced with a national economic collapse or the aftermath of a nuclear war, would eventually lift itself up the same way. It would give those who lived in it the same chance for specialization of work and the ability to carry on mutual trade, support, and protection. Such small communities will be the few light spots in a Neo-Dark Age.”
Love the pics of your cute boys, Apes! Obviously, Mason has not learned yet how to fake a smile like his brothers. He’s just genuinly happy all the time
And imagine Isaac running the ball in an important game! I know how unlikely that was at the beginning of the season. It just took the coach a while to see how determined and skilled that lad is! Good for him. We love your boys and you … thanks for the update.
